Why I Love Livejournal!
All right, f-list!

As you know, a lot of people are jumping ship for dreamwidth and tumblr and I'm going to put my foot down and discuss why you should stay! I use my livejournal for several things. I think the best art and graphics in the world can be found through graphic maker comms. I think livejournal also attract writers, and I mesh well with writers. But best of all, LIVEJOURNAL HAS THE BEST BLOG SUBSCRIPTION SYSTEM. At least, compared to Tumblr. (Maybe this post will drag some people off of tumblr?)

I don't read the newspaper guys, I read my lj feed. I read the news blog dis-info and feministing, which I find both extremely informative and very left wing, though you can sign up for all kinds of new feeds. I'm watching the Daily Show's blog which sends me tons of Jon Stuart Videos. I'm watching comic strip feeds, Nasa science and Nat geo feeds, and I'm watching certain tags on lj comms that post about 20 stories a day (I watch certain tags because I don't want my feed to be flooded.)

Feeds are incredible, and I don't think many people know about them. But they basically allow you to watch any blog you feel like through lj.

To add a feed, go here.

My favorite feeds are:

daily show;; links to new jon stuart videos! there are about five per day and it gives the summary of each so you know what you're playing.
disinfo;; a solid news source with interesting economics, political, and world news. They some really interesting things compared to the other, drier news feeds.
feministing;; basically, all the news of sexism and a pretty empowering blog. the women who write for this are pretty damn smart and perceptive. This blog provides weekly links and summaries to the most important news involving sexism, abortion, women's rights, and violence towards women.
pearls before swine;; my favorite newspaper funny ♥
xkcd;; my second favorite newspaper funny!
nasa science;; really interesting outer-space stuff!
nat geo;; ohh the pictures Q_Q

It's a great news feed and relaxing to read! I always find something interesting every day, and I hear about a lot of things before my friends. It's important to be informed on all kinds of issues.

In addition, the best comms are ontd_political (they put up TONS, so watch only the tags you are interested in!), useless_facts, catcheslikefire, and greatpoets.

To go on, umm, because I don't have a paid account, there are some feeds that I was wondering if someone with a paid account would turn into a feed and link me to? It doesn't take too long to do this! Just go to this page, and scroll to the bottom. There's a place where you paste in the blog's web address, and livejournal will turn it into a subscription, which you can share by linking to the subscription page. I only have the ones above because the most popular subscriptions are available for free and paid accounts.

http://www.mangatherapy.com/  -- really perceptive blog that truly treats manga as canon literature. They mix manga news and themes like scientific discoveries (like how nice characters are prone to being sweets addicts, which is apparently true in real life) and psycological essays (like a reflective piece on the psycology of izaya posing as a woman and celty posing as a man on the internet.)
http://thoughtcatalog.com/  --- hipster writing blog
http://htmlgiant.com/ --- super hipster, central massachusetts based, creative writing blog
http://www.bigbangupdates.com/ --- Because I want to be the first to know when they come to the states!

**BY THE WAY GUYS, if you have a paid account, you can set it up to watch ANY tumblr blog! Tumblr is just too talkative for me, is all, which is why I don't watch much there. I'd rather read my news feeds.

I use my tumblr for just quotes and occasionally a photograph. And maybe a rant or two about random stuff.

I got a Dreamwidth account solely because I heard livejournal is about to change everything and just in case I didn't like anything they did (because the internet frustrates me very easily.) I also got it because a lot of my favorite graphic community owners and writers are moving there and I really don't want to miss their stuff. (:

cuz you know what's going to happen? DW will make the same exact changes! It's gonna happen! People are so anti-change it doesn't make sense.

*laughs* I could very well put everything here, but I'd feel guilty crowding my Flist up.

What I'll more than likely do is just keep using tumblr for quotes/photos and my dreamwidth account (which has nothing on it at the moment) will remain empty with just me commenting.

I'm not anti-change. But I heard from people here that the livejournal changes would be major. I guess you could say I got scared. Which thinking about that now... sounds really silly.
eclat: workingeclats_de_voix on January 15th, 2012 06:31 pm (UTC)
What kind of change could make people leave? I don't their so stupid as to accidentally drop their database and lose all our posts or anything. I don't think layouts will change either. If anything does change, it might be profile pages, the eljay search area, and stuff pertaining to the default navigation header. All of which looks really out-dated as it is!
Christyrinhail on January 19th, 2012 01:33 am (UTC)
Well, I was told differently. I can't remember who told me what would happen (actually I can't even remember half of what they told me) but they made it sound like livejournal was doing a complete 180.

Whatever the change, I do plan on sticking with livejournal. Because all in all, I do like livejournal more than any other blogging site. Besides, it has some really amazing people on it.

I think I just got caught up in all the hysteria. XD

I understand. I am still using Livejournal as well.

Although I do use Tumblr (much) more often for the gifs and anything Lace reblogs.

Tumblr got pretty addicting for me too, but I didn't like it because in the end, it felt like I didn't get much out of it. It's a really passive place, you know, but doesn't give me that feeling of being productive like other internet time kills. Even though it's just a feeling. I keep a tumblr account too, but I follow next to nothing and only post poetry I find around and want to store, lol. Tumblr's all right, but I find news and politics so much more interesting and engaging. It's hard in the states to be informed. At least by the television. You could watch the news all day and not have a clue to what's really going on in the world besides vague rambles of politicians about the deficit or updates on the latest murder scandel. American TV is SUPER petty, and yeah, I would be dissappointed in myself if I didn't know what was really going on.

/worships colbert and stuart!

i've a tumblr too, and i use it mainly to store quotes and nice pictures, and occasionally laugh at the crude memes they have there. (some of them are actually funny)

in the end, though, i do think that lj still has the better/ more intelligent crowd. maybe it's just the people i'm following, but most of the girls on tumblr are pretty hypocritical and superficial people.
eclat: mukuro/chromeeclats_de_voix on January 15th, 2012 06:25 pm (UTC)
It's because people don't write much on tumblr. I'm thankful for tumblr for a lot of things like, oooh, connecting a whole bunch of kpop fans the night of the mtv EMAs. But It doesn't attract writers. It's soo visual. Nearly everything is photography, art, gifs, and yeah it's great for numbing yourself with pretty things, but I like eljay so much more.

Admittedly...I went to Dreamwidth to make a fresh start on fandom. Though, it's for fandoms such as Index and Fate/Stay Night and Type-Moon and other visual and light novels. ^^; I guess it's just that I got tired of KHR's incredibly bad storytelling.

But...other than that, I will stay on here, just at least to see what happens if the changes are not that bad, though...I guess I won't hang on here as often as I would go on Dreamwidth because of the fandom change. ^^;; Then again...I don't have many friends in those fandoms to begin with outside of a certain circle. O.o

It's just annoying that you either switch, or check two blogs that are EXACTLY the same. Dreamwidth. Why does it even exist? How can something even exist that so mirrors livejournal? It's wierd, makes no sense, and is dumb. It's like, all of a sudden, another facebook or tumblr is around.

Why isn't this wierd??
Fire child: The paragon of Innovators.teruame on January 18th, 2012 11:02 pm (UTC)
The thing is that I kinda...prefer a bit of quiet in ways. ^^; Livejournal has a huge populus, in my opinion, and that is what makes it so nice as a community of many people. Dreamwidth, on the other hand...I see that place as a one-on-one place where I can talk to one or a few people without having to deal with the larger crowds. Not to mention...I've been spammed very often lately by someone and I don't know who it is, but said person has been spamming my public LJ posts.

Though, you're right about it being very close to Livejournal. I am a bit unsure about Dreamwidth being very unique. ^^;
eclat: stockeclats_de_voix on January 19th, 2012 01:52 am (UTC)
EHH someone's spamming you? You can probably configure it fixed in your account settings?

Yeah, eljay has a huge populus, but if I want to be one-on-one, that's when I go to instant messenger.

Good luck with getting the spamming fixed. Though, YOU are right about the downfall of khr fanfiction, I've found other things in eljay to like. I don't even watch the reborn comm! Haha, I'm hear now mainly for the friendly people like you, and for graphics comms, my news feed, and my creative writing storage comm.
Fire child: Sakura Matouteruame on January 22nd, 2012 11:31 pm (UTC)
Yeah. ^^; It's a lot of trouble that I know that someone is watching and commenting anonymously and all, so...oh, well.

But...which user are you on Instant Messenger? And...which service (AIM or MSN?) I think I wouldn't mind talking to you often on there, but...I don't know if your time allows that, and same goes for my schedule. ^^;

*HUGS* True. It's kinda...I'm thinking of walking out of the reborn comm and all, but...oh, well. I guess that's why I stay more often on IMing than most other places. ^^;

OOOH ADD ME! On msn, I'm omgpink75@yahoo.com. LOLOL -- if its green, I'll talk, if you know what I mean. Most of my school work isn't on the computer. When it is, it's just lackadaisically checking over my notes from class, as I am now.
「♔ 鈴。」: tsunaseireeii on February 11th, 2012 12:49 am (UTC)
I don't even have a tumblr, so I don't really have any room to talk, but I still think this website's so much better. It seriously is. I love LiveJournal, and FanFiction, and YouTube, though not so much anymore, but still. Tumblr is such a...dismal looking site in my opinion. And your piece about LiveJournal attracting writers is totally true. I'm a writer myself, and once I found it, I immediately created an account. This site is so amazing! (I sound so chipper...Sorry about the random post...)
eclat: kpopeclats_de_voix on February 11th, 2012 04:06 am (UTC)
YOU FEEL ME THEN! Yeah, livejournal is one beautiful place! Tumblr is really drab and way too fast-paced. I think livejournal is far more personal and you really get to know the people you friend. Tumblr is really anonymous and you never meet the people you 'follow.' In the end, it's blatent stalking haha. You don't ever intend to get to know the people you follow. When did you first come to livejournal?
「♔ 鈴。」: lump your head;seireeii on February 12th, 2012 03:19 am (UTC)
I've seen some of the Tumblr pages, and they're kinda boring and plain. I mean, that may be the goal of the site to be plain and simple, but I kind of like how LiveJournal is more personal and how you can change your layouts and backgrounds and stuff to reflect more of who you are as a person. In terms of personality, you do get to know the people you friend through their choice in layouts and icons and such, not just what they write. Tumblr is just pictures, and pictures can only tell you so much about a person and who and how they are. I'm sorry if this doesn't make much sense. I was daydreaming about Hibari and Chrome again...I first came to LiveJournal about a year ago, but I used an old account named 'xcrimsonblossom'. I deleted that one, and made like, three other ones, but deleted those too, and finally created this one. I started fresh on all of my sites (FF.Net, YT, LJ), and named all of my accounts 'seireeii'. I guess I just wanted a fresh start. Man, this response is pretty long...Sorry about that.
